A Statement of Solidarity & The Accra Principles

On the 23rd of May 2025, a delegation gathered in Accra, Ghana for a Liberation Tour to mark the 5th anniversary of George Floyd's murder and to establish the Accra Principles. We travelled with 46 phenomenal Black women and allies from the UK and the US: Politicians, Lawyers, Entrepreneurs, Clinicians, Academics, Philanthropists, and Trailblazers.

Our Journey

Our Journey in Ghana
Honourable Diane Abbott MP, Lady Dentaa Amoateng MBE, Dawn Butler MP

Whilst there the group participated in a series of events including: exploring the history of slavery at Cape Coast Castle, a Fante naming ceremony, touring Jamestown and sightseeing areas of Ghanaian craftsmanship, golfing with pros at Achimota Golf Course, a nature walk through Aburi Botanical Garden, boxing with European gold medallist Lesley Sackey, a discussion about Black women in the arts led by Foluke Taylor, a first screening of the 'Black Women Rising In Ghana' documentary from Leanne Pero MBE and a celebratory Gala.

Together, these experiences deepened our connections, sparked meaningful reflection, and left us with a profound appreciation for Ghana’s rich heritage and the power of sisterhood.

Declaration Day

On May 28th 2025 in honour of founders Christine and Dyann's late mother Justice Irismay's 80th birthday, we declared the day as "The International Day For The Protection Of Black Women And Girls."

The notable 'Declaration Day' saw the group dressed in lime green with a recital and official declaration of the PBW Accra Principles at the grounds of the British High Commission.

The signing of the Principles occurred in the presence of Mother of the House Right Honourable Diane Abbott MP, Dawn Butler MP and Bell Ribeiro Addy MP, calling for all Black women and girls to be protected and treated equitably.
